Scout Association IOSH Managing Safely Courses
We were proud to successfully tender for the delivery of IOSH Managing Safely courses to The Scout Association’s full-time staff. The programme combined both face-to-face sessions and virtual classroom training, with a significant portion delivered at the iconic Scout HQ, Gilwell Park in London.
To ensure maximum relevance and engagement, the course content was adapted to include bespoke elements tailored to the real hazards and risks faced by Scout Association staff in their diverse roles. This approach meant participants could directly apply learning to their day-to-day work, strengthening both individual competence and organisational safety culture.

Delivering this training was a genuine pleasure, made even more special by the personal connection – our very own Jamie Burns once served as an Assistant Patrol Leader in the 57th Episkopi Scouts.
NISSAN Bespoke IOSH Managing Safely Course
Our very own Jamie Burns working in partnership with NISSAN and MAKE UK, delivered over 20 bespoke IOSH Managing Safely courses. These sessions were specifically developed for supervisory staff, covering all core IOSH content with additional, NISSAN-relevant modules on risk assessment and accident investigation.
This tailored approach ensured the training was practical, engaging, and directly aligned with the real-world challenges faced by their workforce. The success of the programme helped strengthen NISSAN’s safety culture and empowered their supervisors to take greater ownership of health and safety on site.

H&S Support Services
Safety Risk Solutions supported Geminor UK with their first pilot site in the UK. The site will divert black bin rubbish from going into landfills by processing it into refuse-derived fuel.
Safety Risk Solutions worked with Geminor to produce risk assessments and method statements for all the significant on-site activities and equipment, including site-specific H&S arrangements and procedures.
Flour Mill Risk Assessment Project
Safety Risk Solutions worked in support of the flour mill site management team to fully complete all risk assessments of the entire site's activities and processes.
This was completed by following the process flow around the site, starting with product in, workplace transport, processing, and product out. Building working relationships with onsite staff was key to ensuring that this project was completed on time, with all significant hazards and activities identified and assessed.

An improvement plan was then presented to site management with actions to reduce the residual risks as low as reasonably practicable.

ISO 45001 certification and on-site mentoring
Certification of the business to ISO 45001 (Health and Safety).
This project was ongoing for 10 months, where Jamie worked in support of a previous employer to help them attain ISO 45001. This was completed whilst mentoring and coaching junior staff at the site.

Jamie even found his old H&S manager's hard hat!
Newcastle Quayside Construction
H&S support during the drilling and grouting operation on the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside development, including:
-
Delivering H&S training specific to the tasks being completed on site
-
Investigating accidents, identifying root cause, and assisting with the implementation of corrective actions.
-
conducting a routine inspection
-
Producing and reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements

ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
In this project, Jamie worked as a freelance consultant supporting another consultancy. Jamie built the environmental management system (EMS) for McCormick Peterborough. The EMS is structured around ISO 14001:2015 and will support McCormick with its environmental protection strategy.
ISO 45001-ready H&S Management System
Safety Risk Solutions supported Smart Solutions, who provide the workforce at the Waste Knot Energy (WKE) site in Teesside. WKE is an alternative fuel manufacturer providing innovative fuels for high-energy-use industries, such as producers of cement, steel, energy, and bricks. WKE fuel pellets are made from dry waste materials, including wood, paper, card, and non-chlorinated plastics. Using these pellets helps to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and save money.

The scope of work included building a bespoke H&S ISO 45001-ready management system in line with the site's unique processes and activities, including supporting the engineering team with various risk assessments and safe systems of work.
